"The Kenyan Promise is dedicated to enhancing the capability of rural schools and communities in order to reduce barriers to learning and increase the future potential of Kenyan children. We do this by fostering strong partnerships with local school officials, parents, local vendors and businesses. Our Promise of a better education intends to significantly enhance the well-being, economic health, and future possibilities of rural Kenyans."
BOARD OF DIRECTORS
Jennifer Njenga, President
Jennifer Njenga earned her B.A. in Anthropology in 2001 and M.B.A. from Western Michigan University in 2003. She worked in Economic Development and Public Relations before becoming a stay-at-home mom. She believes that education is the gateway to a whole world of possibilities. She was inspired to start this organization by her husband who grew up in rural Kenya and has obtained a good education in spite of the many obstacles he faced. She would like to remove as many obstacles as possible for the current children of rural Kenya so they may grow to be informed citizens and be able to improve their economic conditions.
Carol Anthony, Vice President
Carol Anthony is an Organization Development specialist with over 20 years experience in leadership development and change management and she has a passion for working with groups and organizations to further their vitality and success. As a member of a delegation to Sri Lanka sponsored by Northern Illinois University and the U.S. State Department, Carol facilitated meetings that focused on promoting grassroots leadership and economic development for women throughout the country. She is certified member of the distinguished International Association of Facilitators, and led discussions at the Women's International Peace Conference in Dallas on ways to improve the lives of women and families worldwide. She has also facilitated a number of meetings on behalf of the Mayor's Office, City of Chicago to generate input on community issues and solutions in underserved areas of the city. Carol brings a global perspective and strong sense of commitment to raising the quality of life in all corners of the world, and feels excited about her role in making a difference through The Kenyan Promise.
Jenny Murphy, Treasurer
Jenny Murphy has been a health educator for ten years in a variety of urban and rural settings, both within the United States and in Africa. She received her undergraduate degree in Community Health Education from the University of Illinois in 2002 and completed the dual masters program in Public Health and Social Work at the University of Michigan in April 2006. Jenny lived in Kenya in 2000-2001 doing HIV prevention work, traveling the country and meeting and making life-long friends.

John Njenga Kinuthia, Member
John Njenga Kinuthia grew up on a small coffee farm in Kenya. He came to the U.S. to pursue his education and earned a B.S. in Computer Information Systems and a Masters in Management Information Systems. He is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Technology at Eastern Michigan University and works as a Systems Analyst for a global human resource consulting firm.
